Welcome to the Newcomers Club site. Our club has been a meeting resource for Pender Island citizens for over 20 years. The Pender Island Newcomers Club was established to provide newcomers with a social climate in which to learn about the island, have fun, and form enduring friendships.
We hold a monthly lunch meeting and invite local speakers to share information about clubs or organizations, volunteer opportunities, and upcoming events on Pender. It is also a chance to share stories about your own experiences of island life.
All Pender residents – whether part-time or permanent – are invited to join. This particularly includes prior part-timers who have finally moved full-time to the islands. Our bylaws are found here.
Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month from September through November and January through May, with a social event in both December and June. Sessions are held at the Community Hall on Bedwell Harbour Road, beginning at 11:45 in the morning. Sessions generally last 2 hours depending on speakers and topics.
The club and its members may organize field trips throughout the year. These are principally focused on activities on nearby islands. Examples would be visits to the Butchart Gardens, bowling, movies, wineries, surfing and dining.
We also may have some social outings during the course of the year. In addition to a Christmas Party and Summer BBQ, visits to Island eateries and institutions may be scheduled throughout the winter months.
This summer’s BBQ is on June 25th, with details here.
You are welcome to drop in and give it a try anytime at no cost. Coffee and tea are provided, and please bring a bag lunch if you would like. There is an annual membership fee for joining the club.
